Freshman Connection is an annual summer program developed by Von Steuben for the incoming freshman class. This program is geared to give new students study, time management, and organization skills that will help them succeed in high school and beyond, exposing them to college planning, and introducing them to their new school and classmates.
Opt4STEM collaborates with Von Steuben to host two Freshman Connection events - a campus tour and STEM challenge. Scroll down to learn more and check out photos from previous years.
Students participating in the Freshman Connection program are given an extensive campus tour of Illinois Tech. Below are some highlights from their tour:
Illinois Tech offers a variety of STEM majors with students and professors working on cutting edge research and applied projects. To ensure students have access to the resources they need Illinois Tech's campus is designed with collaboration in mind. Labs, a machine shop, idea shop, and tech park cover campus allowing students to start business, work in teams, and solve challenging problems.
At Illinois Tech, students are encouraged to create a home away from home. Campus dorms offer fantastic views of the Chicago skyline and upper level students have access to their own apartments. With over 100 student groups and sports teams, students are sure to make friends and expand their interests. Illinois Tech is also home to students from over 97 different countries and all 50 states making it a diverse and welcoming community.
Along with a tour of campus, Freshman Connection offers students will participate in a STEM Challenge. The STEM Challenge is intended to encourage students to begin thinking about problems from a STEM perspective and to work together to achieve a goal. More about the challenge will be made available in September.
